Phoenix, AZ, August 19, 1999 - In a move that catapults its sales and marketing efforts to a new level, ON Semiconductor, the world's leading supplier of analog, logic and discrete components, today announced the appointment of Michael Rohleder to the position of senior vice president, sales and marketing, effective September 1.
Rohleder brings a strong background in the electronic distribution industry to ON Semiconductor after serving the last two years as president and chief executive officer of Wyle Electronics, a member of the VEBA Electronics Group. Rohleder's experience is particularly valuable since approximately 40% of ON Semiconductor's business goes through the distribution channel.
"Mike is an incredible asset to have on our management team especially because of his intimate knowledge of distribution," said Steve Hanson, president of ON Semiconductor. "He knows our business well and his leadership will have an immediate impact on our company as we continue to enhance our sales and marketing presence as an independent entity."
"It took a unique opportunity for me to leave Wyle," said Rohleder. "Wyle has been enjoying a strong market position with the recovery of the semiconductor industry. ON Semiconductor's growth potential in power and interface semiconductors along with its rich heritage from Motorola is that opportunity."
As the chief executive at Wyle, Rohleder served on the VEBA Electronics board of directors and had a key role in establishing sales, e-commerce and Internet strategies for the distributor. Under his supervision, the company was able to increase market share growth in every line in 1998, a time when the industry was going through its worst recession in history.
Prior to his service as the chief executive at Wyle, Rohleder served as president of Insight Electronics, also a member of the VEBA electronics group headquartered in San Diego, California. Aside from dramatically increasing sales during his seven-year tenure, he also expanded the distribution company geographically from eight to 52 offices covering North and South America.
Before joining Insight and the VEBA electronics group, Rohleder served as vice president of sales for Western Microtechnology, a distributor of components and systems products. Under his direction, the company established 13 new branches and went through an IPO.
A graduate of the University of Tulsa, Rohleder received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science in 1976. He then spent four years in the United States Air Force as a computer programmer for the Air Force Satellite Defense Group.
