ON Semiconductor Expands its Automotive LDO Voltage Regulator Portfolio with Five New Integrated DevicesLDO voltage regulators combine low quiescent currents and integrated functionality to provide an energy efficient, space saving solution for critical automotive applications
PHOENIX, Ariz. – July 20, 2011 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a premier supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics, has announced the launch of five new very low and ultra low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulators to address a wide range of automotive applications such as rear camera modules, instrument clusters, and body and chassis applications. These new devices deliver 150 milliamperes (mA) of output current, in space saving integrated solutions that meet the latest requirements from car manufacturers for very low quiescent currents when the ignition is switched off.

The ultra low Iq NCV8768 and NCV8769 regulators feature typical quiescent currents of 31 microamperes (µA) and 25 µA respectively, making them suitable for applications permanently connected to the battery. The NCV8768 features an Enable function that further decreases the quiescent current to 1 µA, and reverse output current protection. Both devices include current limit and thermal shutdown features.
The very low Iq NCV8668 features quiescent current of 38 µA, and an integrated window watchdog (dual sided detection) that allows the detection of microprocessor malfunctions – an important requirement for automotive modules that have an impact on safety. The device features quiescent current of 38 µA, delivers extremely stable performance, and requires a minimal number of external components to reduce overall solution costs and save board space. Other features of the NCV8668 include reset, a programmable delay time, and an enable function.
The very low Iq NCV8667 and NCV8669 are identical, except the NCV8667 includes an Enable pin. With a user adjustable early warning threshold option, the Iq of the devices is lowered to 28 µA typical. The devices provide replacements for ON Semiconductor’s NCV4269(A) in applications where very low quiescent current is a requirement; both specify a quiescent current of just 42 µA typical. With built-in reset, delay and early warning functions, the NCV8667 and NCV8669 offer the ideal integrated solution for a range of voltage monitoring tasks.
