SHANGHAI, China – March 20, 2013 ON Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: ONNN), driving innovation in energy efficiency, has won an "Innovative Automotive Semiconductor Technology Supplier 2012" award for its NCV78663 power ballast and dual LED driver for automotive front lighting applications. The prestigious award is part of Automobil Industrie magazine's program to recognize companies that play an important role in pushing back the boundaries of automotive electronic technology, spanning semiconductor, sensor and connector solutions for the automotive industry.

The NCV78663 is a single-chip and high efficient smart power ballast and dual LED driver for advanced LED front lighting systems. Developed to meet system level requirements for driving multiple LED strings of up to 60 volts (V), PWM dimming to maintain LED color temperature, and controlled average current, the NCV78663 enables designers to control high and low beams, daytime running lights, turn indicators, and fog lights with one system-on-chip device. It is a best fit for high current LEDs and provides a complete solution to drive two strings up to 60 V, by means of two internal independent buck switch channels, with a minimum of external components. For each channel, the output current and voltage can be customized according to the application requirements.

Diagnostic functions for automotive front lighting are provided on-chip, and the device also integrates a voltage booster controller, giving designers a unique input current filter with a limited number of externals.

The NCV78663 can be used in stand-alone mode or together with a companion microcontroller, providing maximum flexibility. It can communicate with an external microcontroller to change operating parameters after power-up, implement LED-short detection, and provide advanced system diagnostics.
