March 20, 2008 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN) today announced that it has won the 2007 Analog/Mixed Signal IC Editor’s Choice Award for its NCP5810 and NCP5080 in China from leading electronics magazine Electronic Engineering and Product World (EEPW).

The dual output DC-DC converter NCP5810 stood out among hundreds of candidates that vied for the Marketing Application Award and won. The high voltage boost driver NCP5080 has successfully won the Technology Innovation Award. This is the fourth consecutive year that ON Semiconductor is honored with EEPW’s Editor’s Choice award.

“We selected ON Semiconductor’s NCP5810 and NCP5080 because they have wide application areas and feature great innovation,” said the EEPW editorial board. “The NCP5810 features output voltage accuracy, high switching frequency and comes in a small package size, making it particularly suitable for powering a display driver in Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes panel. The NCP5080 is dedicated to the Xenon power flashes. Its built-in DC-DC converter is based on a flyback structure with an external transformer, and is able to adapt any range of high voltage demand.”

The NCP5810 features high overall efficiency of up to 85 percent at 1.75 megahertz (MHz) oscillator frequency, delivering best-in-class performance. In order to complement the slim form factor of AMOLED display, the converter switches at the high 1.75 MHz frequency, allowing the use of small inductors and ceramic capacitors. Its ultra-thin package with 0.55 mm thickness allows the NCP5810 to fit into the thinnest portable design form factor. In addition, it preserves battery power in shut-down mode with true cut-off function that limits the leakage display current to typically 1 microamp (uA).

The NCP5080 is a Xenon photoflash capacitor charger with photo sense interface, operating over the full Li-Ion battery voltage and can fully support Xenon functions. It has an external feedback network, making it possible to dynamically adjust the output voltage. The device is able to cope with any kind of power expected in the application.
