SHANGHAI, China – Dec. 5, 2007 – ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ONNN), a global leader in efficient power management and circuit protection semiconductor solutions, today debuted its new Circuit Protection Applications Test Laboratory in Shanghai, China. Housed in ON Semiconductor’s Shanghai office, the lab was established to support customers in Asia-Pacific and help speed their time-to-market.
This is the company’s first circuit protection test lab outside of the United States – and its second in the world – to offer extensive testing, problem resolution and consultancy to customers for circuit protection issues relating to international regulatory standards. The first lab is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The focus of the new China lab will be overvoltage protection for portable consumer products and telecommunications equipment such as cell phones and DSL modems.
The fully-equipped, state-of-the-art lab is staffed by experienced ON Semiconductor engineers and technicians with the latest in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements related to circuit protection applications. Their expertise in electrostatic discharge (ESD) and high energy surge transient issues will help customers better evaluate applications prior to formal agency approval.
ON Semiconductor’s lab will evaluate electronic components, sub systems or end products through a variety of ESD and surge event tests to establish susceptibility to failure and damage. Findings on tested components and product performance will be reported back to the customer with suggestions and recommendations on how to better meet the required regulatory standards of compliance.
This Circuit Protection Applications Test Lab can perform many of the surge tests needed to comply with industry regulatory standards including IEC 61000-4-4, IEC 61000-4-5, IEC 61000-4-11, ANSI/IEEE C62.41, UL 864, UL 1449, FCC Part 68, ITU Rec. K.17, K.20, K.21, K.45 Telcordia GR1089-CORE.
In addition to extensive testing capabilities, the lab will support customers with applications trouble-shooting, protection device benchmarking, characterization and proposals for new protection devices.
“With a Circuit Protection Applications Test Laboratory in Asia-Pacific, ON Semiconductor is not only geographically closer to its customers, but is now in a position to more effectively provide a variety of testing and consultancy services,” said Gary Straker, director of ON Semiconductor’s Protection Products Business “The lab will assist customers who need to deal with regulatory and government standards relating to circuit protection applications. The test capabilities we are making available will save our Asia-Pacific customers both time and money, which will ultimately enable customers to take their products to market faster.”
ON Semiconductor guarantees customer confidentiality on all testing projects. Procedures for restricted and authorized access to testing have been put into place. Customers have the option of supervising the testing of their own products. Non-disclosure agreements are available and all samples and test data are returned to the customers.
“China is the fastest growing market for ON Semiconductor,” said M.K. Mak, ON Semiconductor vice president of marketing for Standard Products Group for Asia Pacific. “It was a strategic move to house our second Circuit Protection Applications Test Laboratory here in China. This move further demonstrates the company’s commitment to our customers in China and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.”
