Phoenix, AZ, August 5, 1999 - ON Semiconductor, the world's leading supplier of analog, logic and discrete components, today announced the appointment of three corporate officers. A former division of Motorola, ON Semiconductor was acquired from Motorola under the terms of an agreement announced on August 5. Steve Hanson, President of ON Semiconductor, has appointed James Thorburn to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Dario Sacomani to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Bill George to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Manufacturing and Technology Officer, effective immediately.

"These appointments demonstrate our commitment to form the best management team possible," said Hanson. "With 84 years combined experience in the semiconductor industry, this group of seasoned leaders provides the vision for the continued success of ON Semiconductor and will take an active role in nurturing its sustained growth."

James Thorburn - Thorburn has more than 18 years in the semiconductor industry and brings a strong and varied background in strategy, finance and operations. He most recently served as Chief Financial Officer of ZiLOG, Inc., a position he has held since 1998. Prior to that, Thorburn spent 17 years at National Semiconductor. He is credited with implementing a culture of operational excellence, which resulted in a direct positive impact on gross operating profit and the financial performance of the company.

Dario Sacomani - Prior to serving in his current role as VP & Financial Controller of ON Semiconductor, Sacomani held the position of Vice President and Financial Controller for the European Semiconductor Group of Motorola in Geneva, Switzerland. Sacomani began his career at Motorola in December 1980 and served in various financial and controller positions, including a two-year responsibility as the Division Financial Controller for Motorola's Toulouse, France operation.

Bill George - George was formerly Corporate VP and Director of Manufacturing of ON Semiconductor and is responsible for the worldwide manufacturing operations in Asia, Europe and the Americas. George joined Motorola in 1968 and assumed increasingly responsible positions until 1991, when he accepted the assignment of Executive Vice President and Chief Operation Officer of Sematech in Austin, Texas. In 1994, he returned to Motorola in Phoenix where he continued directing investment and operational strategy for Motorola's worldwide manufacturing operations.
