ON Semiconductor Further Expands Timing Device Portfolio with New VCXO Modules

Offering LVDS differential output, ±50 ppm frequency stability and only 0.5 ps of jitter, the new NBVSPAXXX devices are ideal for communication infrastructure applications

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Nov. 15, 2010 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN) a premier supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics today further expanded its PureEdge™ family of silicon-based voltage controlled crystal oscillators (VCXO) with six new devices.

The NBVSPAXXX range of VCXO clock modules are designed to satisfy the exacting requirements set by modern 3.3 volt (V) low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) clock generation applications. Targeted for use in communications infrastructure such as network routers, switches, servers, and base stations, these high performance devices utilize a high Q fundamental mode pull-able crystal and phase locked loop (PLL) multiplier to provide all industry standard output clock frequencies.

Frequencies supported are 156.25 megahertz (MHz) for the NBVSPA017 device, 155.52 MHz for the NBVSPA018, 125.00 MHz for the NBVSPA019, 160.00 MHz for the NBVSPA024, 148.50 MHz for the NBVSPA027, and 74.25 MHz for the NBVSPA042. Custom frequency versions are also available on request, covering frequencies from 60 MHz to 700 MHz.

The new devices have a pull-able range of ±100 parts per million (ppm), an orderable frequency stability of ±50 ppm and a typical jitter of just 0.5 picoseconds (ps) across the 12 kilohertz (kHz) to 20 MHz frequency range. They have a typical output rise time (20% to 80%) of 245 ps.

The VCXOs in NBVSXXXXX range are fully compliant with the MIL-STD-833 standard in terms of shock, vibration and thermal ruggedness. Each device has an industrial operating temperature range of −40 ⁰C to +85 ⁰C.

This announcement follows on from the company’s introduction of the NBVSBAxxx series of LVPECL VXCOs in the summer.

ON Semiconductor’s full range of NBVSXXXXX silicon-based VCXO devices deliver equivalent performance to commonly used quartz-based products, but with considerably shorter lead times and lower unit costs, allowing customers to get their solutions to market quickly and with a reduced overall bill-of-materials.” 

The NBVSPA017, NBVSPA018, NBVSPA019, NBVSPA027 and NBVSPA042 are offered in a Pb-free, hermetically sealed, 5.0 mm x 7.0 mm x 1.8 mm CLCC-6 package. They are priced at $5.70 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.
