SEOUL, Korea – Jan. 24, 2005 – A leading global supplier of advanced power solutions, ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq:ONNN), today announced plans to open a Solutions Engineering Center (SEC) in Seoul, Korea during the second quarter of 2005. The SEC will focus on providing in-depth development platform and product support to Korean manufacturers of cellular handsets and handheld electronic devices.
“Support for our key customers in these highly competitive markets is best achieved by placing our proven expertise in advanced power management as close to the engineering base of these customers as possible,” said Peter Green, ON Semiconductor senior vice president of the Integrated Power Group. “The SEC in Seoul will be staffed with all of the resources necessary to enable our Korean-based customers to tap in – at a local level - to the vast experience ON Semiconductor has developed in power management.”
“Development of advanced power solutions that solve our customer’s problems as they provide more advanced platforms to their customers, is critical to our joint success,” said Green. “With the establishment of the SEC in Seoul, ON Semiconductor is literally committing resources to our customers’ future and the success of their product lines. This will be a win for both within a very fast growing and aggressive market space.”
The Seoul SEC would be headed by S.B. Lee. Mr. Lee, who joined ON Semiconductor in December 2004, has 30 years of experience in power solutions and was most recently the Korea country manager for Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. He has a proven record for providing leadership and developing in-depth applications capability in Asia.
“I firmly believe that customer satisfaction is a critical business success factor, “said S.B. Lee. “Our SEC concept of driving cost-effective and space-saving portable power solutions for key customers is another win-win strategy for our customers and ON Semiconductor.”
The Seoul facility is the first of ON Semiconductor’s SECs to be opened in the Asia Pacific region, according to Green. Others will follow shortly - reinforcing the company’s commitment to the region and to customers in this critical market. In the third quarter of 2004, the region contributed 52 percent to ON Semiconductor’s global revenues.
