Power Supply

Dual N-Channel MOSFET Driver for ATX and SMPS Power Supplies: The NCP4330 , planned for release in Q3 2005 provides drive outputs for series FETs and free-wheeling synchronous FETs, to deliver higher efficiency compared to silicon rectifiers. It is the industry’s first post-regulator to provide synchronous FET drives. The device offers an efficient means of deriving 3.3 V or other outputs from the 5 V secondary, while not requiring additional windings or terminals on the power supply’s power transformer. The secondary AC signal directly feeds the NCP4330 to minimize power dissipation, while reducing the circuit’s part count. The device allows soft switching, thereby allowing efficient higher frequency operation. It is ideal for power supplies operating at frequencies up to 400 kHz and integrates under voltage lockointegrates under voltage lockout and thermal shutdown for rugged designs. The NCP4330DR2 will be offered in the SOIC-8 package, and budgetary pricing is $0.90 per unit in 1,000 unit quantities. Production is planned for Q3 2005. Integrated Multichip Controller: The NCP1603 is a Power Factor Correction (PFC) and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) integrated multi-chip controller. It offers extremely low no-load standby power consumption, because of skipping cycle operation and PFC-stage shutdown while in standby mode. This makes the NCP1603 desirable for many low-power consumer applications, such as notebook adapters, TV monitors and set top boxes. Its PFC-stage is implemented in critical or discontinuous mode (CRM/DCM) boost. The PWM-stage is implemented in continuous or discontinuous mode. The device is available in the SOIC-16 package in 2500 pcs tape and reel quantities with pricing for NCP1603D100R2 at $1.55 USD.

Dual 250 mA LDO: The NCP5504 is a dual output low dropout linear regulator with ±2.0% accuracy over the operating temperature range. The device features a fixed output voltage of 3.3 V and an adjustable output that ranges from 1.25 V to 5.0 V. The NCP5504 is available in a 5 pin DPAK Pb−Free package and employs an architecture that offers low noise without a bypass capacitor for the fixed output. This device includes a ripple rejection of 75 dB and a dropout of 250 mV @ 250 mA that suits post−regulation and power sensitive battery −operated applications. The NCP5504DTRKG is available in a Pb-Free DPAK 5 package in 2500 pcs. tape and reel quantities priced at $0.427 USD.

High Performance LDO: The NCP3335 is a high performance low dropout regulator specifically designed for consumer electronics that includes a high accuracy of ±0.9% over line and load regulation. This device operates using a minimum output capacitance and is guaranteed to be stable using any type of capacitor. The device features thermal protection, current limitation and is Pb−Free. Output voltage options available are 2.5 V, 2.85 V, and 3.3 V, delivering 500 mA of current. The NCP3335DMR2 is available in a Pb-Free Micro8™ package in 4000 pcs. quantities with pricing at $0.453 USD.

LDO With Programmable Delay: The NCP400 is a low-dropout regulator with integrated voltage detection and programmable delay. The device is designed for portable battery-powered applications. The NCP400 is capable of supplying 150 mA with a dropout of 160 mV at 100mA. It offers an ultra-low quiescent current of 50 uA (typical) at full load and 0.25 uA (typical) when the device is disabled. The NCP400 contains a voltage reference unit, an error amplifier, comparators, PMOS power transistor, current limit and temperature limit protection circuits for the regulator portion. The NCP400 has been designed to be used with low cost ceramic capacitors and requires a minimum output capacitor of 1.0 uF at the regulator output. The NCP400FCT2G is available in a lead-free 6 pin Flip−Chip package in 3000 pcs. tape and reel quantities with pricing at $0.55 USD.

Low Voltage Power Management: The The NCP1508 , NCP1509 , NCP1510A and NCP1511 are high efficiency, synchronous step-down DC-DC converters, optimized for portable applications powered by one lithium-ion cell or three NiCd, NIMH or alkaline cells. These current-mode devices use synchronous rectification, providing high efficiency, better line regulation, easy compensation and reduced parts count. They have a built-in PWM oscillator, integrated soft-start, cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal protection. The devices include a variety of digitally-programmable output voltage choices. In a Micro Bump package, the NCP1510AFCT1 is priced at $0.72 USD, and the NCP1511FCT1 is $0.72 USD. In a DFN package, the NCP1509MNR2 is priced at $0.70 USD, and the NCP1508MNR2 is $0.70 USD. All are available in Pb-free versions.

Two Line EMI Filters With ESD Protection: The NUF22xx series provides 2 line EMI filter arrays for wireless applications. The devices provide an integrated solution including both EMI filtering and ESD protection for data lines. The NUF2220 reduces parasitic inductances which offer a more “ideal” low pass filter response and offers greater than −20 dB attenuation at frequencies from 800 MHz to 2.4 GHz. The device also offers ESD protection by clamping transients from static discharges. The NUF2220XV6T1 is available in a SOT563 package and is priced at $0.18 USD.
The NUF2230 provides greater than −30 dB attenuation at frequencies from 800 MHz to 900 MHz. It offers the same ESD protections available in the NUF2220. The device provides a space saving solution alternative by integrating 10 discrete components into a single SOT-563 micro-package. The NUF2230 is compliant with IEC61000−4−2 (Level 4) requirements and is ESD rated at Machine Model = C and Human Body Model = 3B. The NUF2230XV6T1 is priced at $0.18 USD.
The NUF2240 provides greater than −20 dB attenuation at 800 MHz. The device provides a space saving alternative by integrating 11 discrete components into a single SOT-563 / SC-88 micro-package solution. Available in a Pb-Free package, it is compliant with IEC61000−4−2 (Level 4) requirements and is ESD rated at Machine Model = C and Human Body Model = 3B. The NUF2240W1T1G is priced at $0.18 USD.

DATACOM & TELECOM

Differential Receiver / Driver for High Frequency Applications: The NB7L216 with a high gain output targeted for high frequency applications, such as OC-192 data buffers, high speed post amplifiers and test equipment front-end amplifiers. The NB7L216 is functionally equivalent to the NBSG16, but with much higher gain output. This highly versatile device provides 35 dB of gain up to 7 GHz. Inputs incorporate internal 50 ohm termination resistors to eliminate external components, and accept NECL (Negative ECL), PECL (Positive ECL), HSTL, LVTTL, LVCMOS, CML, or LVDS. Outputs are RSECL (Reduced Swing ECL), 400 mV. Application notes, models and support documentation are available at www.onsemi.com. Power MOSFET: The NTD6600N series of 100 V, 12 Amp N-Channel MOSFETs is built on TMOS 7 technology. The devices feature a source−to−drain diode recovery time comparable to discrete fast recovery diodes providing open-secondary fault condition protection. In addition, these devices are avalanche energy specified and can be customized to meet specific application requirements. The NTD6600NT4 is available in the industry standard DPAK package in 2500 pcs. tape and reel quantities and is priced at $0.533 USD. The NTD6600N-001 device is available in the DPAK-3 package in 75 pcs. rail quantities and is priced at $0.533 USD.

STANDARD COMPONENTS

250 V Schottky Rectifier: The MBR40250 is a 40 amp, 250 volt silicon Schottky rectifier. This is the industry's only 250 volt silicon Schottky rectifier available in the market today. It provides an increased safety margin in power supply applications over standard 200 volt devices. Like other Schottkys, the MBR40250 reduces reverse recovery oscillations and keeps switching losses to a minimum for better efficiency. The 250 volt Schottky is available in three package options for additional design flexibility. The MBR40250 in a two-lead TO-220AB package is priced at $1.33 USD; The MBR40250T, in a three-lead TO-220AC package is priced at $1.33 USD and the MBRF40250T in an isolated three-lead TO-220 FULLPAK package is priced at $1.73 USD.

Zener Clipper for ESD Protection: The SD12C is designed to protect voltage sensitive components from electrostatic discharge (ESD) and transient voltage events. Excellent clamping capability, low leakage, and fast response time, make this part ideal for ESD protection on designs where board space is at a premium. Because of its small size, it is suited for use in cellular phones, portable devices, digital cameras, power supplies and many other portable applications. The SD12CT1 and the Pb-Free SD12CT1G are available in the micro packaged SOD-323 package in 3000 pcs tape and reel quantities and are priced at $0.20 USD.
