ON Semiconductor has announced that it has joined the Amazon Web Services Partner Network (APN) which helps manufacturers find ready-to-use hardware, including embedded systems, development kits and sensors that are all AWS ready.

Providing enhanced flexibility and security, the AWS cloud platform can support IoT applications ranging from military and defense to secure banking networks. The AWS platform offers over 2000 services and features including some within Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI), providing uncompromised opportunities for innovation.

The IoT Development Kit (IDK), a rapid node-to-cloud platform, is the first platform from ON Semiconductor to be successfully qualified as an AWS device within the IoT Core program.

The IDK from ON Semiconductor is a comprehensive node-to-cloud prototyping and development platform for several IoT use cases applicable to multiple verticals and applications such as smart homes, building automation and predictive maintenance. The baseboard (BB-GEVK) serves as the host and features an Arm® Cortex-M3® processor and Wi-Fi connectivity. Daughter cards (or shields) incorporating multiple sensors (light, motion, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, touch) and actuators (BLDC motor, Stepper, LED driver) attach to the baseboard via PMOD and Arduino connectors. Most recently, the platform added support for ambient light and proximity detection with the new ALT-ALSPIR shield board. The platform is further augmented by Bluetooth® Low Energy, Sigfox, and 802.15.4 connectivity daughter cards. An easy-to-use IDE that features several example use cases, detailed documentation including connectivity to AWS IoT Core is provided with the IDK.
