In this video, we will discuss our LED flicker mitigation with our AR0231 Automotive Sensor. This solution can both be used for automotive viewing and automotive ADAS. This demo will show how the AR0231 corrects the issue of LED flicker in a bright, outdoor, daytime environment.

Today we are showing the AR0231LFM.

This is a 2 megapixel automotive sensor used for the applications of automotive viewing and automotive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant Systems).

Typically what we see in automotive applications is the use of LED brake lights and LED road signs.

When you use an LED brake light or road sign in a bright, outdoor, daytime scene with a standard sensor available today in the market you will have the flickering and on the right screen we're seeing a typical sensor in a bright light situation showing this LED flicker.

In this demonstration we've emulated an outdoor scene by taking a very bright light shining it against a white board and then placing an LED sign below that.

A standard camera when focused under this scene will cause the LED letters and numbers to flicker.

If there's any type of machine vision or character detection it will cause a failure under these conditions.

You can see in the right screen where it's flickering on and off.

The new proprietary pixel technology from ON Semiconductor in the AR0231LFM LED flicker mitigation corrects that issue.

We see in the left screen the AR0231 with LFM enabled and under the same scene conditions again emulating outdoor bright conditions with LED backup light or an LED sign we see no flicker.
