Bratislava, Slovak Republic, 14th June 2000, ON Semiconductor announced today that it will be providing an internship program to The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the Slovak University of Technology (FEI STU). Selected students will be placed at ON Semiconductor's flagship production facility in Piestany, and will gain practical experience in the semiconductor industry to supplement their theoretical studies. The University will also receive a donation that will be used for the upgrade and development of technological and analytical microelectronics laboratories, and will be dedicated to design, modeling simulation and characterization of semiconductor devices and integrated circuits.
ON Semiconductor and The Slovak University of Technology have enjoyed fruitful collaborations over the past year, and significant amounts of its graduates are now pursuing successful careers within the company. "We want to continue to recruit the best and the brightest microelectronic engineers in Europe," said Alistair Banham, Vice President and General Manager Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), ON Semiconductor, "and the importance of university liaison should not be underestimated. We need to nurture, train and invest in the engineers of tomorrow. The engineers that will create the future solutions for the growing wireless, automotive, networking and computing markets."
Internship schemes such as Piestany are part of a ON Semiconductor's global University Relations programme that was created to assist ON Semiconductor in building lasting relationships on campus, and as an element in identifying key talent for the future. "The collaboration with ON Semiconductor will greatly enhance the quality of education in the University," said Prof. Daniel Donoval, Head of Department of Microelectronics at FEI STU, "and the benefits will be felt by all students- not simply those included on the placement. Programmes such as this and close collaboration between the Department and ON Semiconductor contribute considerably to stimulating the high tech industry in The Slovak Republic and to attracting more students to the field of microelectronics."
About the Internship Programme:
The cooperation includes an internship program for four 4th grade FEI STU students in ON Semiconductor production facility in Piestany, Slovak Republic scheduled for August and September 2000 and a sponsorship worth more than 400.000 SKK donated to the Faculty for purposes of purchase of facilities supporting educational process.Students are able to choose from 4 areas of practice, including research activities in the production process of silicon wafers for logic semiconductor building blocks. Students will be coached by experienced industry experts. ON Semiconductor also provides the internship participants with stipendium and free housing. The sponsorship fee will be used for upgrade and development of microelectronics technological and analytical laboratories. Furthermore the donation will be dedicated to design, modeling simulation and characterisation of semiconductor devices and integrated circuits.
About ON Semiconductor
ON Semiconductor, formerly a division of Motorola, is one of the world's largest suppliers of analog, standard logic, and discrete semiconductors for data and power management. ON Semiconductor's products include integrated circuits for high-bandwidth data applications, analog ICs for power management and low-voltage power transistors. In addition to using micropackaging technology across all product families, ON Semiconductor offers the largest selection of discrete semiconductors in a variety of surface mount and standard packages. These semiconductors turn on and connect digital electronic products to our world. ON Semiconductor is the trade name of SCG Holding Corporation's affiliate, Semiconductor Components Industries, LLC.
