Body Computer Modules

Body Computer Modules (BCMs) have become the information management and communication hubs for today’s light vehicles. BCMs manage a variety of body (mirror, door, and trunk), interior (lighting, rear HVAC, rear control), convenience (lighting, running board, window shades), and security (remote keyless entry, immobilizer, alarm) functions within the vehicle. Additionally, these modules have the ability to manage a variety of loads within the vehicles, while providing diagnostic features in the process. Finally, BCMs provide drive features (DC, PWM) to motors, replacing existing electromechanical relays.

Today’s light vehicle electrical architectures utilize a variety of protocols for communicating, including CAN (low, high speed), LIN, ISO-9141, FlexRay, Ethernet, and J1850. Gateways serve as the communication medium between these various protocols within the vehicle, as well as managing the communications with external interfaces.
