Full duplex usage AX5043/AX5045

Hi,

The idea is to use AX5043/AX5045 as UHF RFID reader. The major challenge is that the receiver must be on while the transmitter is transmitting carrier in read operation. The question comes out if the radio chip is able to do so. For example, in AX5043, ANTP1 is used to transmit the carrier, while the LNA/Mixer pair is receiving via ANTP/ANTN that the product can be recovered by reading GPADC. Actually, there is no need of using the entire receiver digital function, since the demodulation will be post processed at host.

Thus, I’m wondering the feasibility and its configuration if true. Thanks.

Hi Kenny,
our radios cannot work in full duplex.
As partially shown in the block diagram below the transmitter and receiver share the same digital chain, and even bypassing the demodulator you will not be able to operate the PA together with the LNA.

What you could implement is either a time-multiplexed approach where you can alternate RX and TX, or couple two AX5043/AX5045 chips on the same PCB.
