Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging
With the decarbonization of automobiles and other transportation vehicles, there will be an increasing need for vehicle charging infrastructure. Robust devices and systems, designed for safety and reliability, are needed to power the cars of the future. ON Semiconductor’s super-junction MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC devices, and power integrated modules (PIMs), along with our gate drivers, sensing, control and peripheral power products provide a complete system solution for electric vehicle charging systems of all types and power levels. EV Charging equipment is normally classified from Level 1 to Level 4, corresponding to the charging power level, as described below. For Level 1 and Level 2 charging, the main power electronics are normally inside the vehicle. ON Semiconductor technology for On-Board Chargers (OBCs) can be found in the Vehicle Electrification solution pages.
The NCP51705 driver is designed to primarily drive SiC MOSFET transistors. To achieve the lowest possible conduction losses, the driver is capable to deliver the maximum allowable gate voltage to the SiC MOSFET device.
The NCD5703 series is a set of high-current, high-performance stand-alone IGBT drivers for medium-to-high power applications that include induction heating, welding, solar inverters, motor control and uninterruptable power supplies.
The NCD5702 is a high−current, high−performance stand−alone IGBT driver for high power applications that include solar inverters, motor control and uninterruptible power supplies.
The NCD5701 series is a set of high-current, high-performance stand-alone IGBT drivers for medium-to-high power applications that include induction heating, welding, solar inverters, motor control and uninterruptable power supplies.
The NCD5700 is a high-current, high-performance stand-alone IGBT driver for high power applications that include solar inverters, motor control and uninterruptable power supplies.
The on−board charger (OBC) market is growing rapidly as the demand for battery powered electric vehicles is increasing worldwide. An OBC system is composed of AC−DC converter with power factor correction (PFC) cascaded with a DC−DC converter to control power delivery to the battery.
Nowadays, so called plug in hybrid as well as fully electric vehicles are catching more and more attraction triggered by the reduction of pollution as it is normally happening with pure combustion engine.
With the coming electrification of the automotive market, the need of battery chargers is more and more demanded. With the simple equation more power, shorter the recharge time is, a 3−phase supply is here considered which can provide up to ‘3x’ the power of a single−phase supply.
The SEC-3PH-11-OBC-EVB is a three-phase On Board Charger (OBC) platform achieving state-of-the-art system efficiency with AEC-Q SiC power devices and drivers. The system boasts the high performance SiC MOSFET 1200 V, 80 mΩ (NVHL080N120SC1), SiC MOSFET Gate driver 6A (NCV51705) and SiC Diode 650 V, 30 A (FFSB3065B-F085).
