The portfolio of Digital Potentiometers (POTs) from ON Semiconductor includes a variety of potentiometer devices with 1 to 4 pots and 16 to 256 tap points. These devices are linear-taper digital POTs that perform the same function as a mechanical potentiometer or a variable resistor. They consist of a fixed resistor and a wiper contact. The control interface options are serial two-wire Up/Down, I2C, and SPI. The available resistance values are 1, 2.5, 10, 50, and 100 kΩ. The ideal performance characteristics and features offered by these potentiometers include ultra-low standby current, glitchless switching between resistor taps, power-on reset to midscale, low wiper resistance, automatic recall of saved wiper settings at power up. Some of the devices feature 1,000,000 nonvolatile WRITE cycles and 100-year nonvolatile memory data retention. These devices can operate at wide industrial temperature ranges. Applications include LCD screen adjustment, volume control, mechanical potentiometer replacement, line impedance matching, transducer adjustment of pressure, temperature, position, chemical, and optical sensors, RF amplifier biasing, gain control and offset Adjustment.
