AX5043 - can it be used in a legacy mode

Hello, we have some legacy FM products, that have many obsolete parts - operating in the VHF and UHF band.
The VHF band has been updated with the CC1120 transceiver from TI, however the UHF band is not covered by this part.
The AX5043 will operate in the 450-512 MHz UHF band.
Can this part be configured to operate on an external input for Tx/Rx control ?
Is there a way to send/receive transparent data out/in when in Tx or Rx ?

Thanks BP

The main register that controls the Radio operation mode is the PWRMODE (0x002) register.

This register controls if the radio is in TX_ mode, RX_ mode and many other different modes listed in our programming manual.

Our AX_Radiolab software tool has one of the functions for TX on demand where you can trigger transmit packet via pressing an external button in this case PIN B2.

AX5043 transceiver can directly interface with the Modem part by reading/writing bits to/from it through a dedicated interface. The dedicated interface is composed of two GPIO lines, the bit clock line (DCLK) and the data line (DATA).

See our table for PINFUNDATA and CLOCK.

Thank you for using our community forum!

Thank you Martin for the detailed description, it looks very promissing.
We will study the information and perhaps get an Eval unit to experiment with.

Best regards,
Bharat
