ON Semiconductor&#153 Introduces Next Generation High-Voltage MOSFETs

Phoenix, AZ - May 2, 2000 - ON Semiconductor today launched its next generation high-voltage MOSFETs that offer a thirty percent reduction in RDS(on) and a lower gate charge over existing high-voltage MOSFETs. Known as the TMOS 7 E-FET series, these N-Channel Enhancement-Mode Silicon Gate MOSFETs offer customers a competitive, low-cost solution for a variety of power management applications, including PC monitors, telecommunication products and switchmode power supply systems. Specification points previously available in only TO-220 and D2Pak packages are now available in the space saving surface mount DPak package. Similarly, this advanced silicon technology enables replacement of parts existing in TO-218, TO-247 and TO-263 with parts contained in TO-220 and D2Pak packages.

Designed for high-voltage, high-speed applications, the TMOS 7 E-FET MOSFET series, with part numbers NTP/D/BXNXX, is ideally suited for use in power supplies, converters and PWM motor controls. The energy efficient design makes these MOSFETs excellent for bridge circuits where diode speed and commutating safe operating areas are critical. In addition, they offer additional safety margin against unexpected voltage transients.

"The production of this next generation high-voltage MOSFET technology enables the future migration of ON Semiconductor's existing low-voltage and medium-voltage MOSFET portfolios, to meet lower RDS(on) and faster switching application needs," said John Trice, Director of Marketing, MOS Power Products Division at ON Semiconductor. "These products offer both drop-in replacements for existing ON Semiconductor parts, as well as new package options not previously available."

The product family features 400V, 500V and 600V N-Channel MOSFETs designed to withstand high energy in the avalanche and commutation modes. The new energy efficient design also offers a drain-to-source diode with a fast recovery time. Furthermore, the product family offers improved Unclamped Inductive Switching (UIS) performance versus existing high voltage MOSFETs.

Samples and production quantities are currently available. Manufacturers suggested retail pricing in 1K tape and reel quantities ranges from $0.94 to $1.96 depending on part. Information regarding this series of products can be located at HIGH VOLTAGE MOSFETS

About ON Semiconductor

ON Semiconductor is one of the world's largest suppliers of analog, standard logic, and discrete semiconductors for data and power management, with shipments of approximately 19 billion units and net product revenue of over US$1.6 billion (pro forma) in 1999. ON Semiconductor's products include integrated circuits for high-bandwidth data applications, analog ICs for power management and low-voltage power transistors. In addition to using micropackaging technology across all product families, ON Semiconductor offers the largest selection of discrete semiconductors in a variety of surface mount and standard packages. These semiconductors turn on and connect digital electronic products to our world. ON Semiconductor is the tradename of SCG Holding Corporation.
