New families of bipolar LDOs deliver very high accuracy over full operating conditions and superior dynamic response for networking, computing, set-top box, gaming and display applications

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Feb. 13, 2007 - ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a global leader in power management semiconductor solutions, has introduced four new high performance bipolar Low Dropout (LDO) Linear Regulators. With output currents ranging from 0.5 Amperes (A) up to 3.0 A and industry-leading low noise performance, the new NCP3335A, NCP5661, NCP565, NCP5662, and NCP5663 are ideal for use in networking, computing, set-top box, gaming, and display applications

These 1 A to 3 A linear regulators offer output voltages down to 0.9 V and employ a special composite architecture that provides extremely fast (< 1.0 micro-seconds) dynamic (a.k.a., transient) response to changing output loads. Delivering industry-leading low noise performance without the need for a bypass noise reduction capacitor, the devices help reduce overall system costs and free up valuable board space. Providing low ground current independent of output load, these devices reduce power losses. In particular, the 500 mA NCP3335A LDO can sustain inputs voltages up to 16 V and employs a special voltage reference and feedback mechanism that offers extremely tight output accuracies over operating conditions of load, line and temperature. Output accuracies for all the devices are from sub 1 percent at room temperature and sub 1.5 percent across the operating range of line, load, and temperature conditions.

The Devices
The NCP3335A is a 500 mA LDO with enable. It is available with 2.5 V, 2.85 V, 3.3 V, 5.0 V and adjustable output voltages. Offered in a Pb-free Micro8™ package, it is priced at $0.34 per unit in 4,000-unit quantities. This device is also offered in a Pb-free 3 mm x 3 mm DFN-10 package priced at $0.36 per unit in 3,000-unit quantities. Additional voltage options in both packages are in development for release in 2007.

The NCP5661 is a 1 A linear regulator with enable. It is available with 1.2 V, 1.5 V, 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 2.8 V, 3.0 V, 3.3 V and adjustable output voltages. Offered in a Pb-free DPAK package, it is priced at $0.35 per unit in 2,500-unit quantities. Also available in a Pb-free 3 mm x 3 mm DFN-6 package, it is priced at $0.53 per unit in 3,000-unit quantities.

The NCP565 is a 1.5 A linear regulator. It is available with 1.2 V, 3.3 V and adjustable output voltages. Offered in a Pb-free D2PAK package, it is priced at $0.48 per unit in 800-unit quantities. Also offered in a Pb-free 3 mm x 3 mm DFN-6 package, it is priced at $0.53 per unit in 2,000-unit quantities.

The NCP5662 is a 2 A linear regulator with enable. It is available with 1.5 V, 3.3 V and adjustable output voltages. Offered in a Pb-free D2PAK package, it is priced at $0.57 per unit in 800-unit quantities. This device family will also be available in a 4 mm x 4 mm DFN package later this year.

The NCP5663 is a 3 A linear regulator with enable. It available with 1.5 V and adjustable output voltages. Offered in a Pb-free D2PAK package, it is priced at $0.61 per unit in 800-unit quantities.
