New Highly Integrated Motorola Antenna Switch Control Circuit Simplifies GaAs RF Switch Design

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- February 22, 1999 -- Designers creating antenna switching functions in portables such as cellular phones now have a simplified solution using a new antenna switch control introduced by Motorola today. The device replaces a circuit of up to 18 discrete components normally used in GaAs RF switch designs and greatly reduces the overall size, weight and cost of cellular phones.

The new MDC5101 Antenna Switch Control is an integrated solution that is designed specifically to control GaAs RF switches. The device is designed to interface with most HCMOS microcontrollers such as Motorola's MC68338. It combines the functionality of 18 discrete components into one small Micro-8 package. The combination offers enhanced performance with greater efficiency for GaAs RF switch designs.

The MDC5101 inputs TxE and RxE Logic signals with an accessory input termination option and allows positive and negative control voltages in accordance with a specified truth table. In combination with a compatible RF switch, the MDC5101 can achieve duplex isolation in any Time Division Duplex Radio such as GSM and DCS1899 with staggered Transmit Receive Time Slots.

Pricing for the MDC5101 Antenna Switch Control is $0.27 in quantities of 10,000. Samples as well as production quantities are currently available.
