Hey, What's Cooking?

 by Colin Craig - 2015-05-18 10:38:59.0

“If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!” will soon be a saying belonging only to foul mouthed Scottish celebrity chefs.

Induction cook-tops, once thought of as high-end consumer products, have found growing acceptance and fast adoption among consumers in Europe with demand ‘simmering’ in the rest of the world.

Operating on the concept of induction heating, considered one of the most advanced technological innovations in the area of cooking, the growth of the household induction cook-top market is being driven by the cost increase of traditional fuels (natural gas & LPG).  At the same time an increase in disposable income is funding a desire for a more comfortable kitchen working environment as well as improved heat control and energy efficiency gains.

The global induction cook-top market is experiencing a moderate CAGR of 5.3% and is currently dominated by Europe, which accounts for more than one third of the global demand.  However, growing urbanization in emerging markets such as India, Latin America, Brazil and China is expected to drive significant demand over the next few years.  For example, analysts forecast the induction cooktop market in India to grow at a CAGR of 35.4% by 2016.

The majority of end products are coming from European manufacturers; Miele, Smeg, AB Electrolux, Whirlpool, BSH etc. and these are popular and well established brands in the Asia Pacific market. The key strategy of these leading players is product innovation and this is where ON Semiconductor brings value and differentiation to this market, especially with our new Field Stop II IGBT technology.  To learn more, join us this week at PCIM Hall 6, Booth: 559.
