Vehicle Electrification is a key technology helping to reduce carbon emissions, increase vehicle efficiency, and reduce dependency on oil. VE-Trac Solutions for Traction Inverter Applications
presented by Vittorio Crisafulli – 20 minutes

The main traction inverter significantly contributes to the overall efficiency of the vehicle, in terms of its acceleration and driving range. Both conduction and switching losses must be carefully evaluated when selecting the required power electronics components of the inverter module, in order to achieve the vehicle's targeted drivetrain performance. The VE-Trac family represents the solution from ON Semiconductor to address the demand of efficiency, power density and optimized thermal performances.


Automotive Power Modules for 48V and HV Applications
presented by Duwon Lee – 20 minutes

Automotive power modules can be the perfect solution to address the request of high power density, high thermal performances and parasitic optimization. As alternative to the discrete approach, the power module can be the alternative to have a fast design cycle and an efficient solution. Based on reliable transfer molded packaging technology, the automotive power module can address power applications in the 48V and HV domains.


SiC Solutions for Non-Traction HV Applications
presented by Paolo Bilardo – 20 minutes

The increasing demand of efficiency and power density in any application inside a hybrid/electric car push in the direction to have innovative and more efficient power technologies. Wide-Gap semiconductor technologies are the solution to address the request to have low switching losses and high thermal behavior. In particular, SiC technology is now a reliable and performing alternative to reach high level of efficiency and performances not only in traction inverter, but in On Board Charging and DC-DC converter applications as well.


48V Systems are Here: An Introduction to Mild Hybrid Systems and Technologies
presented by Jay Nagle – 20 minutes

As the need to reduce CO2 emissions becomes more critical in the fight to combat climate change, automotive electrification is becoming more mainstream. While there are many approaches to electrification, 48V mild hybrid systems are an “easy” path towards improving the fuel efficiency of traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Also known as belt starter generators (BSG) and integrated starter generators (ISG), 48V systems enable stop/start functionality, but can also be used to boost acceleration, power vehicles electrically for short distances and support a range of 12V hydraulic/mechanical systems, such as power steering, that are migrating to 48V. In this presentation, ON Semiconductor will explore the rationale for electrification, review 48V mild hybrid system topologies, and introduce key semiconductor technologies that make these systems possible.
