Can NCP1117 be safely used with -10°C room temperature? From the datasheet, NCP1117's operating ambient temperature is 0~125°C. However, the die junction temperature range is -55~150°C. It seems odd to me that the die may operate in -55°C, while it cannot operate in room temperature under zero celsius degree. Could you give me some hint? I know NCV1117 is of improved spec; however, it is a bit more pricey. Thanks.

No, the NCP1117 LDO Linear Voltage Regulator's maximum operating ambient temperature range is 0~125°C. Stresses exceeding Maximum Ratings may damage the device. And yes, the NCV1117 (NCV Prefix for Automotive) should be chosen when extended ambient temperature is required. (-55~150°C. )

Please see our NCV1117 datasheet.
