As a marketing director with ON Semiconductor, I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel the globe. From the fjords of Norway to the cherry blossoms of Japan, I have enjoyed the sights and sounds of airports, hotels, customer facilities and the vehicles used to dash between them. Yes, global travel may sound thrilling and romantic, but as most road warriors know, the reality is a lot less glamorous. Cramped airline seats, suspicious food, unintelligible taxi drivers and the inevitable forgotten socket adapter for your phone charger are closer to reality than stunning sights and the enjoyment of exotic cultures. However this is compensated by the company of colleagues and the chance to meet customers in the flesh and actually see one’s products in action.
Today marks the opening of the VISION trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany, a major event for the Machine Vision industry that supports applications ranging from barcode identification and robot vision to traffic systems and industrial inspection. If you have a machine that needs to “see” as part of its operation, this is the event to be at – whether you’re looking for individual components (cameras, lighting, software) or an integrated system solution.
I’ve got to admit it’s getting better

Everyone hopes for it, in one way or another – things to be a little better than they were before. Parents want a better life for their children. Workers want a little more in their paycheck. And fans of sports teams want at least a few more wins than last year. It’s a basic drive of human nature – looking to make things better than they were before, and striving to find ways to make that happen.
