Product Description
NCP5890 drives LEDs for LCD backlighting & multiple LEDs for keypad backlight or funlight. Unique structure that allows all LEDs to be connected in series, while offering 3 independent PWM controls on LED sets. Inductive step-down converter structure offers high efficiency up to 90%. Integrated ambient light sensing adjusts backlight brightness to optimize power consumption and user comfort. Built-in gradual dimming can be called up upon a simple I2C command, thus will not require any external processor resources or software programming. The device is available in the ultra thin QFN-16 package with a 0.5 mm profile.
Features   Benefits

  • 2.7 to 5.5V Input voltage range

  • Operates over the full standard Li-Ion battery voltage.
  • 90% Peak efficiency with 4.7H/ 150m inductor

  • Save energy, extends battery operating time.
  • Built-in Gradual Dimming (Fade-in/ -out effect)

  • Elimnate need of software programing and processor resources
  • Ambient light sensor adjusts backlight current

  • Elimnate need of software programing and processor resources
  • 3 independent PWM control LED segments

  • Provides RGB or White LEDs Fun Light control
  • Support the I2C Protocol with address extension

  • The extended address is usefull to avoid I2C conflict when several chips share the same bus.
  • Tight 1% I-LED tolerance

  • The tight tolerance yields an accurate rendering color of the associated LED
  • Ultra Thin 0.5mm QFN16 package

  • The package is small enough to fit into any thin application
  • True cut-off elminate leakage current in shutdown mode

  • Extend battery standby time
  • 34 V / 25 mA output capability through the whole string of LEDs

  • Can drive high number of LEDs with good efficiency
Applications   End Products
  • LCD and Keypad Backlighting
  • Fun light with RGB or White LED

  • Smartphone and Feature Phones
  • Portable Media Player (PMP)
