Sofia, Bulgaria
ON Semiconductor (previously AMI Semiconductor) opened the Sofia Design Center in first half 2004.
The company was looking to expand design capacity while keeping control of R&D costs. The new location in Eastern Europe was selected for its good academic and university environment and proven expertise in engineering design. This also gives a design center location in closer proximity to key customers. On top of that, the Bulgaria economy is rapidly evolving with huge investments from Western Europe and the United States. The new office was located in the high-tech area of Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital.
The main activity of Sofia design center is developing mixed-signal ICs for automotive and industrial customers. The office hosts teams for custom (ASIC) and standard products (ASSP) IC design (analogue and digital), Embedded SW design, IC layout, and also applications engineering for customer support on several product lines. Products are developed in cooperation with other design centers in Belgium and Czech Republic. Management reporting is currently to Custom & Foundry Products Group (CFPG).
